Facilities
THE LONG HOUSE: UPSTAIRS
Bedrooms, Activity Rooms and Kitchenette
Twelve (12) bedrooms upstairs are available. Single rooms and double rooms are assigned according to what the resident can afford. Room requests are filled according to availability and seniority. Rates of rooms are based on single or double occupancy. If only one person is assigned to a double occupancy room, the rate will be the same as the single occupancy rate until an additional occupant can fill the room. Then the room will revert to double occupancy rates.
All amenities including linens, lamps, window treatments, furniture, and wall decorations are provided. All amenities remain the property of IAGW. All amenities are marked for each individual room and inventoried upon admission and check out. A security deposit for the amenities is charged upon admission. The deposit will be returned at the time of check out and completion of a satisfactory inventory.
An activity room is provided at each end of the long house. One of the activity rooms has a pool table, TV, and card and game tables. The other activity room has a library and card tables and is designed for quiet games and hobbies. A kitchenette holds a refrigerator and microwave for making breakfasts and snacks.
THE LONG HOUSE: DOWNSTAIRS
Work Rooms, Laundry, Exercise Room, Storage, Dining room, and Kitchen
Six (6) work rooms are provided for handwork such as art, drafting, sewing, quilting, beadwork, etc. These rooms are used for both teaching our clients the basics of Native American handwork and for demonstrations and classes for the public.
An exercise area is available with appropriate equipment for all staff and clients. Hours of operation are 8:00 a.m. until 30 minutes prior to lights out.
The kitchen on the first floor is used to cook meals for the facility, canning and freezing of the food grown in our garden, the Wednesday spaghetti lunches sold to the community, and catering to the community which includes foods produced to sell at vendor stands. The kitchen meets all State, County, and City health codes for food service. Meals emphasize healthy, tasty foods.
The dining room is adjacent to the kitchen. The dining room has seating to accommodate our clients for the family- style meals served daily. Additional seating may be added as needed. The dining room is also utilized for meetings such as AA and NA if classrooms are unavailable.
Card-operated laundry machines are available for clients and staff daily from 8:00 a.m. until 30 minutes prior to lights out.
IAGW storage area will also be housed here.
MAIN HOUSE AND OFFICE
The main house, which is adjacent to the Long House, provides offices for all staff, visiting areas for families, a Great Room to be used for classes, rental for meetings and parties, and two (2) apartment rental units.
The facility is eco-friendly. It uses as much solar and wind to fuel the facility as possible and consequently has low energy bills. Solar is used to power the electric fence for our goats and sheep, which also allows us to be free of strung wire or laid cable out in the fields.
Our building materials are eco-friendly. This handicapped-accessible property is open to public as an example of green building, and our clients take all age groups on tours of the facility by appointment to show “how green can be done.”
Outdoor underground cisterns catch rainwater during the rainy season and in summer we use a wind-powered pump to distribute the water for irrigation. We also have composting toilets in our out-buildings – the barn and milk house.
